Difference-Based Causal Models: Bridging the gap between Granger causality and DCMs

چکیده
In recent years, the study of causality in the brain, or effective connectivity, has become increasingly important in the field of computational neuroscience. Neuroimaging modalities such as EEG, fMRI and MEG provide an immense and rich source of data. Causal analysis has the potential to help make sense of this complex data, and provide important insights about the neural basis of cognition. Two of the predominant methods for this task are Granger causality [Granger, 1969] and Dynamic Causal Modeling (DCM) [Friston et al., 2003]. Stated simply, DCM is the practice of modeling neurological activation with a set of continuous-time differential equations and using data to fit the coupling parameters of the model. By contrast, Granger causality is a more exploratory method which seeks to explain the variance of variables at time t by conditioning on other variables at times τ < t.

Causal Nexus between Inflation and Economic Growth of Japan
This study aims to evaluate the link between economic growth and consumer price index (CPI) in Japan for the period of 1980-2014. Initial series were adjusted for stationarity using the Augmented Dickey- Fuller (ADF) test for unit root followed by the application of Johansen Co-integration Test in order to examine the long-run relationship among the variables, while the causalities were evaluat...

متن کاملInvestigating Causal Relationship between Financial Development Indicators and Economic Growth: Toda and Yamamoto Approach
T he Causal relationship between financial development and economic growth has received divergent views in the literature under the traditional Granger approach to causality using data from various countries. The more recent Toda and Yamamoto and Dolado and Lütkepohl (TYDL) approach to causality were used to investigate the causal relationship between financial development and econom...
متن کاملCounterfactuals, graphical causal models and potential outcomes: Response to Lindquist and Sobel
Lindquist and Sobel claim that the graphical causal models they call "agnostic" do not imply any counterfactual conditionals. They doubt that "causal effects" can be discovered using graphical causal models typical of SEMs, DCMs, Bayes nets, Granger causal models, etc. Each of these claims is false or exaggerated. They recommend instead that investigators adopt the "potential outcomes" framewor...

The main purpose of the study is to examine the causal relationship between government revenues and expenditures of the Jordan government over the period from 1990 to 2011 using Granger causality and VECM tests methodology. Which provides channels of causation between government revenues (GR) and government expenditures (GE).The empirical results show that bidirectional causality running betwee...
